"My love of basketry began weaving into my heart at the age of 10. I bought my first basket at a small general store, in a little dusty town in Montana. That little inspiration from my past hangs in my house today. Today I draw my inspiration from the world around me. The colors melt from the earth and sky. The structures take shape from the plants and animals that I share the earth with. In the end, the basket is a simple reflection of prairies, mountains, streams and sky of where I live. My art is simple, the way in which I like to view my life." - Valerie Veis
