Washoe Of Nevada, Yurok, and Surigaonon

About

Jackie Fawn is a Washoe, Yurok, and Surigaonon graphic illustrator currently residing in Akwesasne, Mohawk Territory. Her art has been recognized in Indigenous spaces by her vivid depictions of Indigenous Peoples defending the land and communities against modern day colonialism. In recent years, Jackie’s work has begun to enter educational curriculum, environmental organizations, and health campaigns to uplift Indigenous resiliency and healing. She is a self-taught artist that has been greatly influenced by creative resistance tactics taught by artists Cy Wagoner (Navajo), and Martin Aranaydo (Muvskoke/O’Odham/Pinay). Jackie is a 2021 NDN Collective’s Radical Imagination, 2022 Creatives Rebuild NY, and 2023 Anonymous Was a Woman grantee. With these opportunities, the doors to Fishbear Studios were opened, a creative space geared towards cultivating radical arts within her community.
