Born from Tlingit and Ukrainian roots, Nena lost her parents at 11 years of age. Having to face this challenge at a young age encouraged her positive, welcoming, and inclusive nature, which has helped her to forge lifelong friendships and relationships. Now, as a full-time emerging Indigenous artist and business owner, she strives to infuse each work with themes of abundance, wellness, and stewardship.
In June 2023, Howell received an Emerging Artist Membership Award and gallery representation from Gallery 110 in downtown Seattle through EmergEAST, a juried competition open to artists residing east of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. Her work was also featured in the 2023 national juried exhibition Interstate: Where I-90 Meets I-82 at Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University. Born and raised in Edmonds, WA, Howell now maintains her current full-time studio in Wenatchee, WA.
