My name is Orlando Allison, and I am a self-taught visual Hopi artist whose works are predominantly created in the acrylic gouache medium on birchwood panels. Raised on the reservation in Arizona, my earliest and most vivid memories are of the brilliant tapestry attire worn by the many Katsinam. Naturally, the crux of my paintings is an intricate portrayal of Hopi design and customs -- which I define as "Precision Art." This style is achieved through the careful application of machine-like yet manual methods, resulting in a technically precise display of color, graphic design, collage-like elements, and ceremonial archetypes. The visual references emphasize a timeless quality inherent in Hopi artistic expression. This approach allows me to share my craft with wider audiences, imparting the Southwest's remarkable story in imaginative ways while celebrating the spaces and the people.
