Jacob Shije is a member of Santa Clara Pueblo, NM (Kha’p’o Owingeh), where he was raised with a strong connection to his cultural identity and values. Growing up in an artistic family, he developed an early appreciation for the importance of art in storytelling and cultural preservation. His father, Santa Clara Pueblo artist Jason Garcia, inspired him to embrace creativity, a path that has influenced both his visual and musical work.
For two and a half years, Jacob served as the Marketing Manager at the Poeh Cultural Center (Pueblo of Pojoaque, NM), where he built meaningful relationships with Indigenous artists and the surrounding Tewa communities. During his time there, he played a key role in promoting Indigenous arts and culture through graphic design, photography, and digital marketing. His passion for visual storytelling allowed him to highlight the work of Indigenous artists while growing the Center’s online presence.
In addition to his work in marketing and design, Jacob is a professional musician. He leads his own band, the Jacob Shije Trio, and is also a member of the Levi Platero Band. Blending rockabilly, blues, and modern influences, he captivates audiences with soulful performances and dynamic guitar work. Whether through music or visual art, Jacob is dedicated to celebrating and sharing Indigenous creativity, ensuring that Native voices and stories continue to thrive in contemporary spaces.
