About

Kākou Collective’s founder and illustrator, Brittany Keakaokalani Hashisaka-Peters, known in the art world as "Kea Peters", grew up in ‘Ewa Beach on the island of O‘ahu. As a Native Hawaiian and life-long resident of Hawai‘i, Kea’s passion for the natural beauty of her home blossomed at a young age from spending her childhood in her grandmother’s backyard through her adult years when hiking in our mountains and swimming in our oceans with her husband and son. While Kākou Collective has had different iterations over the years, Kea’s intention has always been to create meaningful connections through her original artwork. Her alma mater - the Kamehameha Schools Kapālama - instilled in her an unwavering sense of pride for her home and her place as a Native Hawaiian, which she shares through her art today. Kea empowers the Kākou Collective community to strengthen their connection to Hawai‘i, inspires them to tell their stories, and nurtures a sense of pride in their personal journeys.
