Growing up on the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe reservation, Anangookwe spent much of their childhood making impressions into moss patches in their backyard, catching toads under an illuminated night sky, and writing, illustrating, and half-finishing fantastical tales. Since graduating from the Institute of American Indian Arts in 2019, Anangookwe has gone on to exhibit their work—whose narratives encompass familial and cultural narratives—around the United States. Anangookwe recently received an honorable mention for the James Welch Poetry Prize and is currently composing a book of poetry that’s dedicated to their love for Lac Courte Oreilles.
