About

As an Alaska Native (Tlingit) growing up in rural Minnesota in the 1990s, I rarely saw people who looked like me or heard about Native Americans doing great things—so I set out to change that. Today, I’m an award-winning independent journalist who focuses on amplifying important Indigenous change makers and issues. In 2023 alone, I produced one Native-focused article per week for national and international media outlets including ELLE, Esquire, Teen Vogue, the BBC, The Guardian, W Magazine, Architectural Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, the Cut, The Daily Beast, Bustle, Saveur, Atmos, Civil Eats, and more. Millions of people across the globe have read my articles covering art, culture, food, and complex topics such as the Land Back Movement, traditional ecological knowledge, Native reproductive rights, food insecurity in tribal communities, authentic representation in media, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons crisis.I have found such a huge demand for this work that earlier this year I stepped down from my full-time job as Editor-in-Chief of Artful Living, a top U.S. lifestyle magazine, so that I can fully dedicate myself to amplifying Indigenous topics. During my tenure there, I was one of few Native chief magazine editors across the country, thereby breaking down barriers in the media industry.
